Have you been feeling like you haven’t been given your best because you know, you haven’t been taking care of yourself lately? Well, self care doesn’t have to be something that’s big and elaborate and takes hours of your time. Not at all. So care can be something simple and easy and done every day without taking too much time. Self Care is also anything that you can do that takes care of your physical, emotional, mental, and or spiritual well being. And as a busy working mom, you have to take care of yourself so that you can show up and be your best at work, love and nurture your kids and pursue your dreams and big goals. Now in this episode, I’m going to share with you seven simple and easy ways that you can practice self care every day. Hey, there I am Tony and a working mom of two and a full time dentist and reservists in the Navy. And I need to hear from you so that I know that you are enjoying these episodes that are coming out every week. And the way that you can let me know is by leaving a rating review. So press pause on this episode, and go to the podcast and scroll down to the bottom where you see writing review. And let me know what you’re enjoying about this podcast. So I can bring more episodes that will make an impact for you. Many companies have used the term self care to coin it in a way so that it can be popular to sell the products from the wellness, beauty, food and even health industries over the years. But self care ideas that I’ll share with you in this episode today will not involve purchasing any products at all. No, there’s seven things that I think you can do every day that don’t cost you any money, and will leave you feeling better. So the first self care idea that you can do every day is drink water before having your coffee. Now I love to get my morning cup of joe, before they get started. So I have a little extra pep in my step. And maybe coffee is not your jam. Maybe you like to do teas, or maybe even some type of smoothie or something like that. Whatever your liking is just make sure that you’re waking up and drinking water. The thing is, is that we all wake up slightly dehydrated, because when you sleep your body is naturally losing fluids. And dehydration can actually cause you to feel tired, have headaches, dry mouth, etc. Now, we don’t want to start our day having a headache and feeling tired. So one way to instantly nip that in the bud and to make yourself feel better is by having some water. So make sure you’re getting that water in every morning before you get going. Now number two is write down five things that you’re grateful for. Now, I love doing this because it can help me change my mindset quickly, especially if I’m having not so great day. So even when you’re having your worst day, you can find five things that you’re grateful for. And having gratitude, even when things are bad helps your mind from being stressed and helps you to be in a whole lot better mood. So anytime you’re feeling like you’re down, definitely try to flip the script and find things that you’re grateful for. So what’s five things that you’re grateful for right now, I’m sure there’s a couple of things that may come to mind. So take some time, show a little gratitude and jot down five things that you’re grateful for. Now the third thing is plan your meals and snacks. Now for me it is so easy to focus on the kids and make sure that they have what they need and they’re getting the proper nutrition as far as making sure they’re having a well rounded breakfast is lunches and dinners. But it’s really easy to forget about yourself. So make sure that you are having snacks and a good lunch so you don’t have to go to the vending machine or go to the drive thru line often. This will help you out more than you know because you’ll be able to grab for a really good nutritious snacks versus something that’s not actually going to be really giving you the nutrients that you need to show up and be your best. The fourth self care ideas is turn up some feel good music and have a dance party. Now there is a Harvard review that says that dance actually helps to reduce stress, increase the levels of that feel good hormone called serotonin and also helps to develop some neural connections. All of this makes you feel So, so good. So turn up that Beyonce or whatever it is that you love to listen to, and just rock it out and have a good time. I love doing this in the car, turn the music all the way up, singing my heart out and just dance like no one’s watching. And hopefully no one is. But even if they are enjoy yourself, because that will definitely make you feel a whole lot better. The fifth self care idea is to de stress and decompress after work. And there’s some things that we can do to help with decompressing after work because it’s easy to go straight from work to home, and not have that time to unwind. And you really get a little cranky. So I already mentioned having a dance party that can just get you in a better mood. But some other things that you can do to help to decompress, and de stress after work is taking a warm shower, turning off your phone, because it’s nothing worse than having your phone beeping at you multiple times throughout the day. You can even journal, do some breathing exercises. Stretching and even taking a walk can help you with to the ability to de stress after work so that you can move and transition into being and showing up at home. Number six is move your body. Now, I’m not saying that you have to go to the gym every day, or you have to be working out like you are trying to get fit for a marathon. But even if you’re doing something as simple as doing a lunchtime stroll, or an even walk for just a few minutes will make such a big difference. Now our bodies are designed to move and it works best when you’re actually active. And especially if you have a job that allows you to be more sedentary throughout the day, you really need to find ways to put in some movement throughout your day so that you’re not just sitting in a chair for multiple hours at a time. Now technology is amazing. And even though it is amazing, it has caused us to be a lot more sedentary in our jobs. So again, just find ways to move your body throughout the day, so that you can be feeling your best. Now the last healthcare idea is to meditate if it’s only for two minutes. Now, if you haven’t tried meditation, I will tell you is not what you’re thinking, or probably some of the things that you have seen. There’s actually an episode that I did with Kelly, it’s episode 173. And she shares all about meditation and even does a quick meditation in that episode, if you’re following through to the end. So definitely check out episode 173 If you’re looking for a way to incorporate or just learn a little bit more about meditation, but if you’re familiar with meditation, you know the benefits, meditation can actually help with reducing your blood pressure, even some of the symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome, and anxiety and depression. So finding ways to meditate, even if it’s just for two minutes just to close your eyes, and to quiet your mind that can help out so so much. Now I’m share with you seven ways to practice self care every day. And I have created a special self care challenge that will help you to take what we’ve talked about today to the next level.
