So let’s go ahead and jump on into this episode would be alright B Welcome to the podcast. I’m excited to have you.
Beverly 2:04
Thank you Welcome.
Real Happy Mom 2:06
Yes, you are someone that I’ve been wanting to talk to you. Because I know you are going to help us look good and eventually feel good. Because I really do believe that if you are looking the part like it really does boost your confidence. And that’s one thing is moms I think we can definitely need a little boost in is is our competence. So you’re going to help us with getting the outside looking good. So before we talk about that I wanted you to just briefly tell us a little bit about you and what you do.
Beverly 2:39
Yeah, absolutely. Thank you so much, Tony. My name is Beverly also being gay. I’m the founder of project B wardrobe consulting. It’s a wardrobe consulting company based in New York City. I’ve been a stylist for about eight to nine years working in the fashion industry as a fashion stylist. I’ve worked with a ton of like magazines, international fashion magazines, models, a lot of red carpet work. And I kind of fell into what I’m actually doing now because I was helping one of my one of my friends who at the time traveled a lot for like work. And I helped her packed her like bags. For a it was asking for like a little like business business trip. And she came back and she was just like, oh my god, you helped me so much. But she saved me so much time. I looked good. I felt great. I got so many compliments. This is this is something that I actually never ever really like, experience or ever actually use like an actual stylist. So I think that you need to do this for other women who are just as busy moms who just kind of like need that like extra hand holding and I was like girl, what are you talking about? We just pack your bags over a bottle of like wind is not that serious? And I mean she just like no Do you need to go to this for other women. So that’s how I first launched my company in 2017. So I do everything from wardrobe like revamping, it’s called it’s actually called a worship facelift, where I actually go into your homes, edit out your closets, re like ramp it reorganize it kind of help you get rid of things that are dated like no longer look great. And then from there kind of help you build a closet that you love and a closet that also works for your life style. And I actually go shopping for you. So I do all of the pre shopping, I love to get the fitting rooms set up in a lot of different stores. I also work with a lot of my clients budgets as well. So we are like shopping with a purpose and also shopping to actually fill in like the gaps in your closet. And then from there I go back into your closet and do a full styling session where it’s really focused on that one to one styling to kind of help Have a look, we kind of like work with things that you already own as long as long, but the things that is that actually currently bought. And then I’ve actually put together a virtual lookbook for my clients who are busy and just can have something to reference back back to when they don’t know what to wear. So that’s a little bit more about my services. Yeah, I love what I do.
Real Happy Mom 5:25
Yes, and I love all of that, because you remind me of one of my sisters, my middle sister, she, she’s like you, she’s really good at putting stuff together. And I used to always be like, hey, like, give me something to wear. Like this natural, like I just like this, this and you know, or, you know, take that off and put this one on. And it was just like, super easy. So I love that you have that gift, and you honed into it, because it’s something that, like I said, for me, I really definitely need it. And one thing that I found too, is that I had too many clothes, but not anything that went together. So I was just wondering if you had noticed that problem too, as well?
Beverly 6:04
Yeah, I mean, I figure a lot of people whenever they like shop, a lot of a shop for just things that we actually like, because you go into a store and be like, you know what, this is a really great piece. I like this. This is like super, super cute. But then again, we actually shop focusing just on pieces, instead of actually thinking about actual looks. So you actually end up building a closet full of just like pieces and not really think about what actually goes with like, what so I really believe in going into your closet, figuring out exactly what you like need. And then from there going shopping. So almost like creating a food list with an actually creating like just a shopping list, which actually helps you save money and like the long run. Yes, absolutely. Because I actually went through my closet because I got to a point, honestly, where I would have somewhere I needed to go. But I felt like I had nothing to wear even though my closet was filled with stuff. And then finally one day I went through and like took out all the clothes that didn’t fit or, you know, or like you said outdated and things like that. And
Real Happy Mom 7:05
like, left what very much. I was just wondering for as moms who who want to you know, wear things that are stylish and comfortable. You know, what are some things that we can start to do to refresh our closet so that we actually wear things that we feel good in?
Beverly 7:27
Yeah, that’s a great question. Because right now we are like living during a really really strange time. So loungewear is like, I mean, like the new fashion, right? So you can definitely kind of incorporate a lot of really great sets, like a nice like I love a good like PJ said Call me crazy, but I actually been investing in so many great PJs. And I’ve been layering it with like a blazer with like a little cute sneaker. I was actually at my sister’s house a few, you know, weeks ago and I wore a PJ said on my zoom call. And she was like, Wait, are you actually gonna wear that? I was like, Yes, watch me change this. So I do want like an oversized sweater, a great necklace. And what’s really funny is the person that I was actually speaking to was like, oh, man, I really really love that set. I’m like the sexy PJ’s. But no one has to know, I’m just gonna let you know this. But I think that now is a lot. You know, think about that comfort level. If you want to focus on PJ sets, Eva, like cute little nit sets, sweater sets. I’ve seen a lot these like little like knit sweater dresses, which is so comfortable. And like soft. So I mean you can actually wear it around the house. And then you can also leave the house wearing it with like a pair of like sneakers, a great little denim jacket. So it’s really all about finding like that loungewear comfortable look which is what’s actually currently and because obviously we are living during a very very very strange time.
Real Happy Mom 8:55
Yes, definitely. No, I was laughing because I was like a PJ said like, but then when he said oh yeah, yeah,
Beverly 9:06
it’s actually a cute little arm. It was actually a little camisole set. So I was like a walk so pant with little polka dots. And that had like a little matching top. So I was a little I wore a black, oversized sweater like later layer with like really great like, like jewelry, and then you know, now look like a full look. Which is kind of cool. So
Real Happy Mom 9:31
nice. Yeah, I definitely want to try that now. But you brought up another thing too. As far as like, you know, a lot of times we shop for things that we like, and we have different pieces, but not actual sets that go together. So I was wondering, like, what are some of the things that we should focus on if we’re trying to like, you know, get our closet. So we actually have clothes that we can wear, not just a bunch of nice little pieces that we like, but what are some things that you would say like make sure you have you know, a dress or pants like what are some of the basic things that you would say That is in particular for busy working moms like what are some basic things that we should have in our closet?
Beverly 10:05
Yeah, well definitely that’s super super unlike porn. I think just having like a basic staples. Like I love a good like white button up shirt. One that’s not super fitted but more like more of like that relax look. I love a good pair of like jeans, whether it’s like now like these like mom like jeans or now and they’re super comfortable. I love a great jogger, as well like easy, something soft, comfortable. I feel like these are just easy. basics. So a jogger and oversized like obviously like men’s shirt could be kind of cool. A boyfriend Jean, a black blazer because I mean, that’s what I mean, you couldn’t like that’s always such a staple piece. And it’s pretty timeless. I love a good jumpsuit, because it’s amazing that you don’t really have to put together a full look is this kind of like does it for you. So if you can find one that’s like maybe like a jersey knit that’s a bit more softer things that you can kind of lounge around in that is like a full look. And you really don’t have to think much about it. Another piece I’ve been wearing a lot like the season is a denim jacket. I love a good denim jackets, I actually am able to layer it underneath like, like any kind of like wool wool, or wool coat or a fur coat. And also sneakers, I think sneakers, obviously is now our now our our new norm. I also love a fun pair of like golden goose sneakers, which is kind of like that cool, like kind of vintage looking sneakers as well. But then you actually can go wrong with just a white classic tennis sneaker, which is always in style. So that’s my top picks.
Real Happy Mom 11:53
Nice. I like that. And one of the things that you were talking about is, you know, having some of these things, and then how we can actually like pair them up together and how it all kind of I see now how I can make several different outfits with just those basic things that you have listed out there. But I was just thinking, if we have some of these basic staple items that you’re saying in our closet, what are some other things to keep in mind when we go shopping? is there other things that we should think about? In addition to having some of these staples in our closet?
Beverly 12:27
Yeah, I think that when you go shopping, I think that every single piece should actually be able to be you actually should be able to actually pair it with actually something you actually own in your closet. So for every top you should have three different pairs of bottoms. So that’s kind of how I like to think of clothing as well. When I go shopping as well, I love to figure out things that I could layer. So I think a great duster is something that I just been, like always trying to find, just like just so many different types of like dusters, they have something that’s for like the summer with a bit more lighter weight. And then you can wear that with a bathing suit. Or I guess that’s probably called more of a kimono slash captain. And then you have like your winter duster that’s more of like a long sweater that maybe kind of pass like the knees super soft, lightweight. And then you can also wear with a lot of different things and like your closet even like a slip dress is also great. Things are just like comfortable and easy to like layer is also great to kind of think about when when shopping.
Real Happy Mom 13:33
Nice. One thing that I love that you talked about is you know, making sure that we’re buying clothes that fit our lives because that was one of the conversations that we had before. You’re thinking like you know, if you’re busy working mom, you don’t have time for some shirts, like you need to stick with other types of fabrics. Absolutely. So I was just wondering, for busy working moms in particular, where are some fabrics we should probably stay away from and which ones are a little bit more friendly for our lifestyle.
Beverly 13:59
Yeah, well one of the things is definitely stay away from silks because obviously if you’re a busy mom like kids like soak it’s really hard to min like to get the also focus on the dry cleaning process which can be really really expensive. You want to definitely focus on buying things are easy to wash, cotton Jersey, Jersey like knits. Also things that are more natural fibers which actually allow you to which actually allows you to just like be able to actually a bit more lighter weight meaning that you actually don’t like sweat a lot. So if you are wearing like more synthetic fibers which has like like the rayons and like the like the polyesters you actually absorb more like sweat. So if you are running around every single day, you definitely want to think about Cotton’s and more natural fibers things that are a bit more breathable. Lightweight knits are also great as well. Well, just suppose these are fabrics that that actually kind of like helps you in like the long run so you don’t have to worry about the dry cleaning process, you won’t be able to throw it into like the washer line dry and it’s kind of like already done. So cotton is like my number one thing. recommendation for sure.
Real Happy Mom 15:18
Got it. Yeah, I love the cotton, me and polyester. We’re not that much of friends, but we’re working on it. But I agree with all of that. I was just wondering, what are some easy ways we can look more put together without doing much because I think that’s one thing is moms like, we want it to be like quick and fast but not requiring too much to get that put together. Like if that makes sense.
Beverly 15:44
Right? Yeah. I’m a huge fan of accessories like a lot of people. A lot of people don’t really wear it I’m like, why don’t you know where accessories because they just aren’t the perfect way to just kind of complete your entire look like even if you were an amazing like necklace or a great hat like these are just little tiny things that automatically change like your look and also makes you feel more put to get together. So I think that it’s really really really important to definitely elevate your accessory game. I tell my clients is all of the all of the time and I’m just like Why don’t you not have like these basic Easy Pieces you know, so really kind of shocked me but i don’t i don’t see people with any accessories like I think a pair of like hoops is always like my go to just because hoops is just like an easy kind of like sexy kind of look to add to a simple like dress or a pair of like jeans and like a white t shirt just kind of works so I think that just definitely investing in better accessories. I’m always trying to include an accessory into like your everyday look, but we’ll just kind of changed our entire like vibe.
Real Happy Mom 16:59
Yeah, and I didn’t even think about that because I’ll be honest with you. I don’t know what happened like once you hit 30 things just start changing I noticed my skin does not do well with like the the jewelry that isn’t like real gold or some of the other metals so if it has a nickel and things like that, like I still love breaking out really bad so lately I’ve been wearing all of my jewelry has to be gold. So that is one thing that I’ve been trying to replace all of my fake jewelry stuff now
Beverly 17:30
a gold plated without
Real Happy Mom 17:33
Okay, yes, yeah, those work too as well. But I have a jeweler that I go to. And I love her but like I can’t be spending like 1000 plus dollars on one little thing you know like simple things like hoops and like just a simple necklace and things like that all you really do the trick, but you even brought up hats too. And that’s one thing that I haven’t really like, dived into, but I’ve noticed like yeah, once you put a hat on, it really does change, like everything will be different. No, I was just thinking about some of the other accessories. So you brought up the hoops. The hoops is a really good one that is definitely something we can edit. What about necklaces, is there anything in particular that you would like help us with as far as like guiding us on like which necklaces would work better for certain neck lines and things like that or just kind of experiment with them?
Beverly 18:25
Yeah, I think that for necklaces. I love doing a thinner necklace because I feel like we wear a lot of statement jewelry, you kind of can’t wear it every single day. So I like doing layering necklaces as well starting with like a shorter little like smaller choker. And then maybe adding about two to three different layering necklaces. I think something that’s really thin, dainty is really really soft. And also you can wear it every single day. So it’s not like it’s such a you know Baobab film piece that you can only wear like once every month. So I think investing in good like layering Nexus is great because then you can also wear with everything so and when it comes down to necklines, I would just probably say just experiment and just see like what works best for you. Again, I’m all about my like my statement jewelry, but I don’t wear a lot of that stuff unless I’m going out. buy things for your daytime wear just easy layering necklaces that you can kind of like mix and match as well. Nice. And I love all of this. This
Real Happy Mom 19:31
is definitely something that’s doable, because I’ll be honest, like, I really want to do better with my style. And with actually like looking nice, but I’m always like kind of intimidated because I’m like, I’m not really that fashionista but You make it sound so simple because the one thing that I’m hearing you say often is you know layering and putting different things together. It doesn’t have to be just like, necessarily one thing. So that definitely now it makes it more doable like okay, now we can kind of dabble in and play with a couple of things over here and see how that works.
Beverly 20:01
Yeah, no, absolutely. I just think that like, a lot of people think that there’s so many rules to like, like fashion into like style, but you have to figure out exactly what works for like you. You know, if you kind of figured that out, then I think that like getting dressed, like will actually be a lot more fun. So, and also another thing is I think a lot of people are a bit more nervous, kind of tried different trends and different styles because they kind of wonder like, what that person will probably think of them. And I’m like, you know what, like, no one cares, like, wear what makes you feel great wear what makes you feel happy, and just have fun with fashion. I always encourage my like, clients to kind of step out of the box and try new trends. Try new things, because how will you not? How will How will you actually know like what actually works? You know, you know, to step out of your comfort zone, so just have fun with it and just enjoy that process.
Real Happy Mom 20:57
Yes, I love it. Now what would you say as far as either a motivational quote or words of encouragement for us Real Happy Mom, when it comes to our passion? I know you told us to experiment but any encouragement for as Real Happy Mom says before we sign off I
Beverly 21:13
love a quote by Edith head is you can have anything you want. And like life if you just for it. And I feel like that is like so true on so many different scales because I had clients that I started working with who got up emotionality work clients who like leveled up in so many different aspects of like their lives clients who were actually single, and also started dating and now they’re married because they because they just feel good about like themselves and also that actually radiates. So I think that if you dress like that woman that you actually want to be anything is possible.
Real Happy Mom 21:55
I love that Love it. Love it, love it. Now, where can we find you, we want to connect with you either work with you or just want to see more what you got online.
Beverly 22:03
Yeah, so you guys can check out my website, it’s WWE project b that is a b, e nyc.com. And I’m also on Instagram at Project B NYC. So I actually recorded about 10 videos, like over an hour and a half of content kind of kind of teach you how to layer jewelry, how to like work with actually how to work with like she what you own, and how to shop like a like Pro.
